Andie Millar spent much of his life as a grocer in and around Coupar Angus. He retired to Pitlochry and there he much enjoyed curling, helping with gardening at Pitlochry Festival Theatre and keeping in touch with his many friends.   Andie died in March 2013 and donated his net estate to a charitable trust, which he had set up some years earlier. The Trustees are   locally-based  and the Trust is managed by J. & H. Mitchell W.S., Solicitors, Pitlochry.

 

The first annual competition was held in 2014. Recipients of donations from the Trust that year were:

- Pitlochry Path Clearing Group (via Pitlochry in Bloom): £1,000 for the purchase of tools - for community benefit

- Dunmore Angling Club: £1,000 for upgrading fishing stations at Loch Dunmore - for recreational benefit

- Vale of Atholl Pipe Band: £1,000 for piping and drumming tuition - for educational, arts and heritage benefit

- Moulin Kirk Trust: £2,500 for presentational materials - for educational and heritage benefit.

 

In 2015, the recipients were:

- Pitlochry Golf Club: £800 for the purchase of sets of junior golf clubs for Pitlochry Golf Academy - for recreational benefit

- Pitlochry Baptist Church: £1,000 for Pitlochry's BIG Fun Day - for community benefit

- Perth & Kinross Business Community Support Group: £1,460 for the delivery of two employability programmes (LifeLine and School to Work) within Pitlochry High School - for educational benefit

- Pitlochry Pavilion Users Group: £1,500 for some refurbishment and furniture within the Pavilion and a new noticeboard outside it - for recreational benefit

- Atholl Centre: £2,278 for a new Pitlochry Community Garden - for community benefit.

 

In 2016, the recipients were:

- Pitlochry Path Clearing Group (via Pitlochry in Bloom): £700 for the purchase of materials to improve the path network between Lagreach and Loch Faskally - for environmental improvement and community benefit

- Pitlochry Station Bookshop: £2,500 for improving display facilities - for community benefit

- Perth & Kinross Business Community Support Group: £1,460 for the delivery of two employability programmes (LifeLine and School to Work) within Pitlochry High School - for educational benefit

- Mid-Atholl Strings and Things: £1,600 for uniforms, sheet music, tuition etc. - for arts and culture benefit

- 1st Perthshire (Pitlochry) Scout Group: £2,500 towards the refurbishment of toilets and shower at Pitlochry  Scout Hall (conditional upon full funding for this project being secured by the Group by 31 March 2017  - for community benefit.

 

In 2017, the recipients were:

- Pitlochry & Blair Atholl Pipe Band: £2,500 for piping and drumming workshops and replacement lightweight drums and harnesses - for educational and cultural benefit

- Tayside Biodiversity Partnership: £2,500 for raising awareness about local birds through Pitlochry Community Swift Project - for education and environmental protection

- Heartland Radio Foundation: £2,200 for Pitlochry audio walking guides for residents and visitors - for educational benefit and for culture and history

- Pitlochry Pavilion Users' Group: £2,000 for development and improvement of facilities at Pitlochry Recreation Ground - for recreational benefit

- Toberargan Curling Club: £824 for renovation of outside curling stones - for recreational benefit

- Pitlochry & District Adult Education Association: £750 for advertising and insurance costs to promote adult evening classes 2017-18 - for educational benefit

- Pitlochry Path Clearing Group (via Pitlochry in Bloom): £736 for  path improvements near Auchnahyle - for environmental improvement and community benefit

- Pitlochry & District Neighbourhood Watch Association: £245 for new Neighbourhood Watch signs - for community benefit
